Simpson falters in singles, loses to Concordia

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Simpson men's tennis team lost a tight 5-4 match to Concordia (Neb.) on Sunday morning.

The last of a three-match set on the weekend trip to Nebraska, the Storm (3-5) won 2 of 3 doubles matches before dropping 4 of 6 in singles play.

The team of Zach Kusick and Peter Reitgraf beat Nathan Wingield and Mike McCartney 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and Alex Hook and Mike Rundle topped Jonathan Doublas and Joel Kaldahl 8-4 at No. 3 to give Simpson a 2-1 lead.

Singles play didn't treat Simpson as well. Kusick beat Wingfield in exciting fashion at the top spot, 6-1, 3-6, 10-5. Reitgraf got the other win, taking Kaldahl in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Simpson returns to action Saturday, March 1 when it travels to Bloomington, Ill. to face Rose-Hullman and Fontbonne.
