Men's tennis splits in Nebraska

FREMONT, Neb. – The Simpson men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday in Nebraska, losing to Doane 9-0 to start the day before beating Midland 7-2.

The win over Midland snapped a two-match losing streak as the Storm improved to 3-4 on the young season. Simpson put together an all-around performance against the Warriors, winning 2 of 3 doubles matches and taking 5 of 6 in singles.

In doubles, Zach Kusick and Peter Reitgraf beat Logan Meisinger and Ross Ryder 8-4 at the No. 1 spot while Alex Hook and Mike Rundle edged Kollin Brooks and Nicolas Arguello 8-5 at No. 3.

Simpson dominated the No. 1 – No. 5 positions in singles play. At No. 1, Kusick beat James Entzler in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Hook topped Brooks 8-3 at No. 2 and Reitgraf and Dylan Hogan won in straight sets at 3 and 4, respectively. Geoff Converse met some resistance at the 5 slot but came away with a super tiebreaker win over Arguello, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.

Despite the lopsided final against Doane, Simpson was a few games away from going into singles play with a lead instead of being down 3-0. Kusick and Reitgraf lost to Tyler Johnson and Sebastian Gardefjord 9-7 at No. 1, Hogan and Converse lost to Aaron Cook and Kristian Kiland 8-5 at No. 2 and Hook and Mike Rundle came up short against Sam Tipton and Dylan Ramey 8-6 at No. 3.

The Storm have a chance to even their season record on Sunday when they make the trip to Lincoln to face Concordia, Neb. Start time is set for 9 a.m. at the Woods Tennis Center.
