Amsbaugh named IIAC Player of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson men's basketball player Sam Amsbaugh averaged 20.5 points and five rebounds in two games last week, earning Iowa Conference Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 17.

A sophomore forward from Sheffield, Iowa, Amsbaugh scored 21 points and pulled down five rebounds in a 78-60 win over Loras on Wednesday, Jan. 13. He closed the week with a 20-point, five-rebound effort in a 74-64 loss to Dubuque on Saturday, Jan. 16. He shot nearly 58 percent from the field during the week, including 80 percent from beyond the arc. He also went 15-for-16 from the free throw line.

The Storm's leading scorer through 15 games, Amsbaugh is a big reason for the team's early success. After managing just six wins in 2014-15, Simpson is 9-6 this season and 2-2 in the Iowa Conference.

The 6-5 Amsbaugh is averaging 14.6 points and and 5.7 rebounds overall and is one of just five players in the league averaging at least 19 points and seven rebounds (19.0 ppg, 7.3 rpg) in IIAC play.

The Storm go to Wartburg on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
