Storm win Rhodes Tournament on Gretzky's game-winner

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Dillon Gretzky scored the game-winning layup with 0.4 seconds left and the Simpson men's basketball team beat Wittenberg 69-67 in the championship game of the 2015 Rhodes Thanksgiving Tournament on Sunday.

Gretzky's winner came off an inbound with 3 seconds left following a Cody Good steal. Austin Turner missed the potential go ahead basket, but Simpson got the ball back when the rebound went out of bounds off Wittenberg.

Gretzky had 27 points and eight rebounds for the Storm (4-2), who won their third game in a row and handed Wittenburg its first loss of the season. He went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe, where Simpson shot 17-for-21 as a team. 

Sam Amsbaugh added 12 points and four rebounds.

Jaelin Williams had 18 points and Landon Hormann had eight and 12 rebounds for the Tigers (4-1). Wittenberg struggled from the line, going just 14-for-24 while committing 18 turnovers.

Williams gave the Tigers a 67-65 lead with 1:44 left before a lay-in by Turner tied it at 67-all with 1:27 left. Garrett Dorfman missed a pair of free throws and Gretzky missed a jumper before Good swiped the ball from Cody Phillippi with 22 seconds left, setting up the winning possession.

Simpson trailed by 11 with 14:02 to play before mounting a 12-2 run. DJ Dafney's jumper with 6:42 left gave Simpson a 58-57 lead, its first since the 6:18 mark in the first half.

Stat of the game: 18. Simpson scored 23 points off 18 Wittenburg turnovers while committing just six of its own. 

Up next: The Storm go to Waldorf on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
