Simpson struggles in road loss to Central

PELLA, Iowa – The Simpson men's basketball team equaled its lowest offensive output of the season and couldn't slow down a hot-shooting Central team in an 81-57 loss Wednesday night.

Demarco Turner scored 16 points on 7 of 11 shooting to lead the Dutch (17-7, 9-6 Iowa Conference), who shot 58 percent from the field and outscored Simpson 42-24 in the paint.

Jacob Winkler added 14 points and seven rebounds and Brock Caves had 13 and four assists.

Cornelius Mosby had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Storm (11-12, 8-7), who were held to their lowest point total of the season since losing to NCAA Division II Winona State 89-57 back on Nov. 18.

Drew Bentley added 11 points and Elijah Knox had 10 with four assists and no turnovers.

Simpson struggled from the outside, going only 2 of 12 from 3-point range.

Central outscored Simpson 44-28 in the second half and quickly turned an eight-point game at halftime into an 18-point advantage by going on a 15-5 run to open the second half.

Simpson held the lead twice in the contest. Mosby scored the first point of the game on a free throw and later gave the Storm an 8-7 lead on a three-point play just over three minutes into the game.

A layup by Winkler on the next possession gave Central the lead for good.

Simpson will try to gain momentum going into the Iowa Conference Tournament when it hosts Loras (6-18, 3-12) on Saturday at Cowles Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
