Mosby named Iowa Conference Athlete of the Week

INDIANOLA - Simpson men's basketball player Cornelius Mosby earned Iowa Conference Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 after averaging a double-double in Simpson's 2-0 run to end the season.

A junior forward from Chicago, Mosby averaged 17 points and 10.5 rebounds in wins over Buena Vista and Cornell. He scored 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 97-85 win over Buena Vista on Feb. 16 and added a 13-point, 10-rebound effort in a dramatic 76-75 win over Cornell on Feb. 19.

The Storm's win over Cornell clinched the No. 4 seed in the this week's Iowa Conference Tournament, Simpson's first appearance since 2007. The Storm finished the season 11-14 overall and 8-8 in league play. This season marks the team's first 10-win effort since the 2007 campaign.

Since joining the team at the beginning of the second semester, Mosby is averaging 11.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. He also has 29 blocks, tied for second in the conference despite playing in only 12 games.

The Storm open the Iowa Conference tournament tonight when they host fifth-seeded Buena Vista in a 7 p.m. tipoff at Cowles Fieldhouse.
