Coe pulls away from Simpson men in second half

INDIANOLA - Andrew Wirth led four players in double figures and Coe shot better than 68 percent from the field in the second half en-route to an 80-73 win over Simpson on Saturday afternoon at Cowles Fieldhouse.

Wirth finished with 14 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. David Mataloni scored 12 points and Alex Tatman and Garrett Cross each had 10 for the Kohawks (15-6, 9-3 Iowa Conference), who swept the season series against Simpson.

Cornelius Mosby scored a career-high 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting, adding eight rebounds and three blocks for the Storm (9-12, 6-6). Elijah Knox scored 17 points, Stefon Brown 12 and Zack Barragan 11.

Coe took a 37-32 lead into the locker room at halftime, but blew the game open with a 31-14 run in the first 13 minutes of the second half. Down by 21 with 2:29 to go, Barragan and Knox combined for 17 points as Simpson went on a 19-5 run in the closing minutes.

Led by Wirth and Garrett, Coe's bench outscored Simpson's 39-9. The Kohawks went 6-for-7 from 3-point range in the second half, going 9-for-14 on the day.

Simpson will try to snap a two-game skid when it travels to Pella for a meeting with Central on Wednesday, Feb. 9. The Storm beat the Dutch (11-10, 7-6) earlier this season, an 82-72 triumph Jan. 12. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
