Men's basketball participates in Coaches vs. Cancer on Saturday

INDIANOLA - The Simpson men's basketball team will take part in the national Coaches vs. Cancer initiative when it faces Coe on Saturday, Feb. 5 at Cowles Fieldhouse.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.

Fans can participate in the festivities in a number of ways thoughout the afternoon.

There will be a silent auction for an autographed Simpson Storm basketball, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Fans can also make donations at marked containers around the gym and a percentage of ticket sales will go to the cause.

The coaching staffs for each team will commemorate the event by wearing white sneakers as a way to remind audiences about the ways people can reduce their risk of cancer through excercise, healthy diet, making healthy lifestyle choices and following cancer screening guides.
