S Club Hall of Fame welcomes four athletes, two coaches in class of 2017

Former student-athletes Janelle Claiborne Duffy '05 (women's golf), Tiffany Everding Goodchild '07 (volleyball), Lisa Simpson Klein '91 (women's track & field) and Jason Ripke '07 (football, men's track & field) and coaches Joe Blake '71 (assistant baseball coach) and Henry Christowski (head softball coach) will be inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame.

Hillygus named honorable mention all-conference

Simpson first baseman Hunter Hillygus was named Honorable Mention All-Iowa Conference for the 2017 season following a vote of the league’s coaches, as announced by the league office earlier this month.

Tanner Jansen scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning, Trey Kehoe tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and the Simpson baseball team knocked off Buena Vista 3-2 in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. Buena Vista won game two 12-2 in seven innings.

Adam Richman gave the Simpson baseball team a complete-game effort on the hill but Devon Harms’ go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning held up as the game-winner and Buena Vista held on for a 2-1 win in the series opener Friday night.

The Simpson baseball team came back from four runs down to take a short-lived lead in game one but Coe scored three in the top of the ninth to win 10-7 on the way to a doubleheader sweep Saturday. Coe won game two 8-1.

Kyle Alvarado drove in two runs on three hits, Thomas Schaedel threw seven hitless innings and Coe used a three-run first inning to hand the Simpson baseball team a 7-2 loss in the series opener Friday night.

Cody Reimer had three hits and four RBIs and Luther pounded out 18 hits to beat the Simpson baseball team 17-2 in eight innings to earn a sweep in the three-game series Saturday morning.

Due to the threat of scattered thunderstorms for the next two days, the Iowa Conference baseball series between Simpson and Luther has been altered. The teams will play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. and conclude the series with a single game Saturday at 10 a.m.
