Storm tally AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Simpson volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 11th straight season, the AVCA announced Monday.

The Storm tallied a team GPA of 3.50 during the 2018-19 campaign en route to the 13th AVCA Team Academic Award in program history.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Simpson was one of 175 teams from Division III and 1,125 across high school and all divisions to receive the award, breaking the previous record of 977 that was set a year ago.

The Storm will begin their 2019 season on Friday, Aug. 30 at the Illinois College Invite in Jacksonville, Ill.
