Storm battle in five-set thriller at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Lexie Parks had a career-high 17 kills and the Simpson volleyball team came out of the gates strong, but Buena Vista came back to steal a 3-2 win Tuesday night. Buena Vista won by set scores of 20-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-12.

The Storm are now 6-11 overall and 1-2 in American Rivers Conference play while the Beavers improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Hannah Lester added 12 kills at a .258 clip and Taylor Sudmann enjoyed a career night with 11 kills and 13 digs. Ariana Martinez had a team-high 20 digs, followed by Madison Hawtrey with 16.

Alyssa Mathews handed out 48 assists to increase her career total to 2,009, making her just the ninth player in school history to reach the 2,000 plateau.

With the loss, head coach Lana Smith holds steady at 332 career wins, tied for the most in school history with her predecessor, the late Shelley (Scott) O'Meara.

Brooke Runneberg, Serena Sandvig and Kylie Roe had 17 kills apiece for the Beavers.
