Parks leads Storm to comeback win in home opener

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Freshman Lexie Parks dominated the final two sets as the Simpson volleyball team came back to beat previously unbeaten Grinnell in five sets (25-20, 27-29, 23-25, 25-18, 15-11) Tuesday at Cowles Fieldhouse.

Parks had 10 of her 16 kills in sets four and five to lead the Storm (2-3) to their second straight win. She hit .452 for the match, including a .667 clip when the Storm needed it most.

Simpson led 12-11 in the final set when Parks buried her fifth kill of the frame to swing momentum in the Storm's favor. After an error by Grinnell, Ariana Martinez closed it out with a service ace.

Morgan Taylor finished with 15 kills, Hannah Lester had 12 and Madison Hawtrey and Megan LeMay chipped in with 10 apiece. Alyssa Mathews had 49 assists and Martinez collected a team-high 26 digs.

Kaylin Kuhn finished with 17 kills and six service aces to lead the Pioneers (4-1), who had yet to lose a set coming in to Tuesday's match.
