Storm contain Prairie Fire but fall 1-0

INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Simpson women's soccer team kept the high-scoring Knox attack off the scoreboard for nearly 60 minutes before conceding the lone goal in a 1-0 loss Wednesday night at Buxton Stadium.

Corina Leyva scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute, lofting a high-arching shot over the outstretched hand of 5-foot, 3-inch goalkeeper Zoe Seiler.

The Prairie Fire (6-4-0) won their fifth game in a row after a 1-4 start. Knox was averaging nearly seven goals per game during the previous four games, but was held in check by Seiler and the Storm (2-7-0).

Seiler made 11 saves in her first start of the season as Simpson was outshot 23-4 on the night. All four Simpson shots came in the first half as the Storm were unable to generate a quality opportunity in the final 45 minutes.

Coach Speak
"We knew tonight was going to be a physical battle against a tough opponent. We stayed in that battle for 90 minutes, but just couldn't generate enough going forward. We'll build on tonight's effort for this upcoming week of conference play." — head coach Jill Serafino

Notes and Numbers
• Seiler's 11 saves marked the second-straight game a Simpson goalkeeper has reached double figure saves. Riley Adams made 16 in a 7-0 loss to Central on Saturday.

• Knox improved to 2-0 in the all-time series. The only other meeting between the teams was a 3-0 win for the Prairie Fire last season in Galesburg, Ill.

• The Storm didn't allow a goal in the first half after allowing 11 first-half goals in the previous two games combined.
