Women's soccer spots Bethel two goals in loss

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – A late goal by Madison Densmore wasn't enough to erase a two-goal deficit as the Simpson women's soccer team dropped its season opener, 2-1 Friday at Bethel.

Jessica Huseby had two goals for the Royals (1-0), who outshot Simpson 15-6 and put seven on goal to Simpson's three.

The Storm (0-1) trailed 1-0 for a majority of the contest before Huseby's second goal in the 73rd minute. Densmore, a junior, cut the lead to one with her score in the 86th minute but it was too little, too late.

Sophomore Stephanie Cox made five saves in her first collegiate start at goalkeeper, minding the net for the full 90 minutes. Micale Jensen had two stops for Bethel.

Simpson will try to even the ledger Saturday when it takes on Waldorf in Forest City.
