Slow first half hurts Storm in loss to Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa — Noreen Morrow scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds but the Simpson women's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow first half in a 64-54 loss at Buena Vista on Monday.

Claudia Larsen led Buena Vista with 12 points off the bench and Morgan Muhlbauer added 11 as the Beavers (10-8, 6-3 Iowa Conference) won their second game in a row. 

Janey Botkins scored 11 points, hitting three 3-pointers, and Britney Boland had 14 rebounds for the Storm (7-11, 4-5), who's winning streak ended at two.

Simpson jumped out to an early 11-2 lead but Buena Vista responded with a 17-0 run, going ahead on Liz Riessen's fastbreak layup with 3:25 left in the first quarter. 

Buena Vista led by as many as 16 in the fourth quarter before Simpson mounted an 11-2 run, cutting the lead to seven on Morrow's layup with 2:06 left. Holly Schneider made two free throws to stop the run and the Storm couldn't finish the comeback.
