Morrow posts third double-double as Storm fall to Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Noreen Morrow posted her third double-double in five games but Wis.-Platteville made plays down the stretch to hold on for a 74-70 win over the Simpson women's basketball team Wednesday.

Megan Lankford scored seven of her 13 points in the fourth quarter, Morrow finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds and the Storm (1-4) closed their five-game tour of the Wisconsin Conference to open the season with their fourth straight setback.

Morgan Horstman scored a game-high 22 points and converted the game-winning and-one with 29 seconds left for the Pioneers (2-4), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

A Lankford layup gave Simpson a 69-67 lead with 40 seconds to play. On the ensuing possession, Horstman hit a short-jumper in the lane and drew a foul on Morrow -- her fifth -- before converting the go-ahead free throw.

Britney Boland was whistled for a charge on the next possession and Horstman converted a pair of free throws for a three-point lead. With a chance to tie, Platteville came up with a steal and sealed the win at the free throw line.

A jumper by Taryn Barz gave Simpson a 65-61 lead with 2:51 to play before a pair of free throw by Allison Prestegaard and a layup by Morgan Hartman tied it up. Simpson trailed 67-65 before Lankford went 2-for-2 at the line to tie it with 1:05 to play.

The back-and-forth affair featured eight ties and 11 lead changes.
