Storm fall to Whitewater for second time

LA CROSSE, Wis. — For the second time this season the Simpson women's basketball team squared off against a tough Wis.-Whitewater squad, and for the second time the Storm ended up on the short end of the result.

Noreen Morrow followed up Saturday's monster performance with 17 points and six rebounds but Simpson lost to Whitewater 79-50 on Sunday at the Wis.-La Crosse Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic.

Ellen Gallagher had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Storm (1-3), who opened their season with a fourth-straight meeting against a school from the Wisconsin Conference. That number will increase to five when the Storm go to Platteville on Wednesday.

Brooke Trewyn scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Warhawks (6-0), who are sure to crack the initial D3hoops.com Top 25 when the poll is released Wednesday. Whitewater was receiving votes in the preseason poll.

Simpson's only lead came on Morrow's jumper that opened the scoring less than a minute into the contest. The Storm trailed 14-11 before a 3 by Trewyn sparked a 12-2 run to close the first quarter. The run extended to 17-2 into the second quarter and Simpson couldn't get closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Morrow earned a spot on the all-tournament team after averaging 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds and shooting 61 percent from the field. She also had seven blocked shots on the weekend.
