Paxson, Lopez lead Storm in home meet

 

WAUKEE, Iowa - Breydon Paxson and Anna Lopez each finished third overall as the Simpson College shooting sports team wrapped up its home meet at the New Pioneer Gun Club.

The competition served as the final tuneup before the Storm travel to Las Vegas for the NCSSAA Nationals, beginning next Tuesday and spanning four days.

As a team, the Storm took third overall. The Storm also took second overall in normal sporting and skeet. Super sporting was added as an event alongside the regular disciplines of trap, skeet, and normal sporting.

Paxson took third overall with a score of 318 over the four events. Paxson tied for first in the super sporting competition, with a score of 43 out of 50. Paxson also took fourth overall in the normal sporting discipline with a score of 86 out of 100.

Anna Lopez had one of her finest performances of the year with a third place overall finish, tallying an aggregate score of 286. Her competition was highlighted in the skeet discipline, recording a score of 93 to finish as the top overall woman.

Other notable performances included that of Carson Cummings. Cummings tied for third overall in men's trap, with his score of 97 tying his season-best. Cummings finished in the top three in every event for the Storm and compiled an aggregate score of 308, good for second on the team and seventh overall.

Riley Ericson also topped the 300 overall score mark, joining Paxson and Cummings as one of only 14 athletes, male or female, to go past the mark. Ericson's score of 302 was highlighted by a 94 in skeet, tying Paxson and Cummings for the top mark on the team.

Jenna Ducett rounded out the top five overall members of the Storm, having her finest performance of the year. Ducett finished in fifth place on the women's side with a combined score of 278, also finishing in the top five for the Storm in trap, skeet, and sporting.
