Ceperley picks up weekly conference honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Jay Ceperley of the Simpson men's swimming and diving team was named the American Rivers Conference Men's Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference office, Monday.

Ceperley's performances helped the Storm defeat fellow A-R-C member Coe in a dual meet, 56-52, in the final competition before the A-R-C Championships in less than two weeks.

Competing in two individual races and one relay, Ceperley nabbed one victory and two second-place finishes that proved to be important for the Storm victory. In the first event of the day, Ceperley swam the third leg of the 200 yard medley relay, leading the Storm to a win in the event.

After swimming a career-best 23.68 in the 50 yard freestyle to claim second, Ceperley also earned a runner-up finish in the 100 yard butterfly, clocking a time of 59.33. In total, Ceperley helped contribute eight individual points to the Storm's point total, as well as being part of the relay team that added 11 to the overall score.

Ceperley and his teammates will have around 10 days to prepare for the A-R-C Championships, which span three days starting on Feb. 17. The meet will be hosted by Coe in the same pool the Storm just competed in.
