Storm men defeat Coe in final tuneup

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Simpson men's swimming and diving team defeated Coe in both the men and women's final tuneup before the American Rivers Conference Championships.

The men narrowly edged out the Kohawks by a score of 56-52. Jay Ceperley was the only Storm swimmer to set a new personal-best, taking second place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.68. Ceperley also took second in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in a time of 59.33. Nathan Parkins collected an uncontested win in the 100 yard freestyle, while both Storm relay teams won the 200 yard medley and freestyle relays.

For the women, Kate Minette was once again a leading performer. Minette won the 50 yard freestyle in 26.24, while Keelin Curley set a career-best with a time of 27.31 to place third. Minette also took second in the 100 yard free, clocking a time of 56.79. Emma Haynes placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:21.45, while the 200 yard medley relay team came within a second of setting a season-best.
