INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson men's swimming team came up just short in the final home dual of the season on Friday night, losing to Iowa Lakes 69-61 at Cowles Center.
Stephen Schmidt and Nathan Schneider won two events apiece for the Storm (2-4), who won six of 11 events on the night.
"With just four guys its hard to win a meet, but we hung close today," head coach Aaron Strain said. "Those guys are tough - we'll get back in the pool and continue to work hard."
Schmidt won the 200 freestyle (2:10.79) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.88). Schneider captured the 100 butterfly (1:12.21) and touched the wall first in an exciting 400 freestyle (5:01.13), beating Mick Skiles by just over half a second.
Dustin Martens picked up Simpson's fifth individual victory, winning the 100 freestyle (1:09.30).
The Storm will take part in the Grinnell Invitational on Jan. 20-21.
