Storm swim well at Morningside
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Simpson men's swimming team turned in four top-five finishes and took fifth of five teams at the Morningside Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman Stephen Schmidt provided three of the top five finishes for the Storm, highlighted by a second-place showing in the 100 backstroke. He broke his own school record in the event, touching the pad in 59:34.
"We swam extremely well today," head coach Aaron Strain said. "We had a tough week of practice and swam a meet last night, but still had the toughness to swim a few lifetime best times and several season bests. We should swim very fast once we have some rest."
Schmidt added a fourth-place showing in the 200-backstroke (2:13.08) and took fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:22.88).
Simpson's other top-five placing came from Cody Zaring in the 200 breaststroke. Zaring finished fifth in 2:49.03. He also had a sixth-place showing in the 400 IM (5:32.82) and placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.16).
Nathan Schneider chipped in by finishing seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:37.01) and eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:49.10).
Simpson returns to the pool Friday, Nov. 18 when it hosts Loras in an Iowa Conference dual. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
