Storm win first-ever conference dual
Postdual Interview - Head Coach Aaron Strain
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Every Simpson swimmer competing won an event as Simpson beat Coe 77-67 in the Iowa Conference opener on Friday night.
In its third year of existence, the Storm (2-0, 1-0 Iowa Conference) picked up the first conference win in program history.
"Tonight was a big stepping stone for us," head coach Aaron Strain said. "I'm so proud of how hard these guys are working. They are so tough - there's only four of them but I wouldn't trade them for anyone."
Nathan Schneider, Stephen Schmidt and Cody Zaring all won two events and Dustin Martens added another.
Schneider won the 200 freestyle in 2:18.98 and bested the field in the 100 butterfly, finishing the event in 1:13.52.
Schmidt - the Iowa Conference Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 30 - won the 50 freestyle in 26.32 and the 100 backstroke in 1:07.11.
Zaring added wins in the 200 IM (2:44.15) and the 100 breaststroke (1:21.97), while Martens touched the pad first in the 400 freestyle (5:40.62).
All four swimmers combined to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:56.58, an event they swam uncontested.
The Storm hit the water again tomorrow when they travel to Sioux City for the Morningside Invitational. Start time is set for Noon.
