Storm take 6th at AIB in final tune-up before conference

PANORA, Iowa – The Simpson men's golf team finished five strokes out of first place, tying for sixth at the weather-shortened Jack Chadwick Invitational hosted by AIB on Monday.

The Storm shot 316 as a team, tying with Iowa Lakes CC. Bellevue won the tournament, shooting 311 in the one-round event that spanned two days.

Originally scheduled to be a 36-hole tournament beginning Sunday, rain limited the golfers to 12 holes on day one. The tournament was set to conclude in full Monday, but tournament officials cancelled the remainder of play after the first round concluded.

Trent Lindenman carded a 4-over 76 to tie for fourth in the individual race and Andy Hutchins shot 5-over 77 to tie for seventh.

Lindenman started the day well, shooting even-par the first nine holes before going 4-over in his last nine. He made three birdies on the day.

Hutchins played steady, making par on 11 holes with one birdie.

Jimmy Siebert (81, t-37th), Shaan Desai (82, t-40th), Nathan Molstead (82, t-40th) and Korbin Sesker (89, t-71st) rounded out the Storm's lineup.

Simpson begins the four-round Iowa Conference Championships on Friday, April 24 at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. Play continues with the second round Saturday, April 25, before the final two rounds are contested at Thunder Hills Country Club in Dubuque beginning Friday, May 1.

The Storm enter the weekend with the No. 2 stroke average in the Iowa Conference, averaging 306.6 over 14 rounds this season. Lindenman (73.4) ranks second among the league's individuals and Hutchins (76.0) is eighth.
