STORM LAKE, Iowa — Tanner Jansen scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning, Trey Kehoe tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and the Simpson baseball team knocked off Buena Vista 3-2 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Buena Vista won game two 12-2 in seven innings.
Game 1
Jansen doubled with one out in the eighth, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch, giving the Storm (6-27, 3-18 Iowa Conference) a 3-2 lead. Kehoe (2-5) got out of bases-loaded jams in the seventh and ninth to earn in the win in relief as Simpson snapped a 13-game losing streak.
Trent Dooley had two hits and Kehoe -- who got the start at first base -- drove in a run on a groundout in the first. After Buena Vista tied the game in the bottom of the first, Simpson re-took the lead when Jansen scored his first run of the game in the sixth. With two outs, Jansen walked, took second on a passed ball and got to third on a wild pitch. He scored when Jonathan Greiner reached on an error.
Curt Castenson pitched well in the start, going 6 1/3 innings in the no decision. He gave up two earned runs on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Game 2
Simpson struck first on an RBI single by Luke Anctil and a suicide squeeze by Truman Schmitt in the first, but Buena Vista put up nine runs in the third and never looked back. Tyler Englehardt (0-4) took the loss, going 2 1/3 innings in the start.
Devin Wagenman went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Beavers (22-14, 13-8).

Simpson closes the season Friday and Saturday, May 5-6 when its hosts Central in a three-game set. The series begins Friday at McBride Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
