Game one comeback falls short, Storm swept by Coe

INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Simpson baseball team came back from four runs down to take a short-lived lead in game one but Coe scored three in the top of the ninth to win 10-7 on the way to a doubleheader sweep Saturday. Coe won game two 8-1. 

Game 1
Trey Kehoe slapped the go-ahead, two-RBI double in the sixth inning to give the the Storm (5-25, 2-16 Iowa Conference) a 5-4 lead after trailing 4-0. Coe came back with three in the seventh before Jonathan Greiner drove in two on a single in the eighth to tie the game 7-7.

Isaac Evans singled to bring in the go-ahead run in the ninth and Jack Strellner's two-RBI single added some insurance for the Kohawks (19-11, 11-7), who out-hit Simpson 13-7. Andrew Brierton went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and Andrew Schmit (4-2) got the win in one inning of relief. 

Colson Frakes (0-2) took the loss in 1 1/3 innings of relief while Adam Richman went 6 2/3 innings in the no-decision. He allowed seven runs -- five earned -- off 10 hits with four strikeouts.

Game 2
Grant Henning finished a single shy of the cycle and three Coe hurlers combined to hold Simpson to two hits. Henning tripled in the second, hit a two-run homer in the fourth and doubled in the fifth. He drove in his fourth run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Jack Greene (2-1) fanned eight in 7 1/3 innings for the win.

Jared Herzog had both hits for the Storm, plating an RBI triple in the third and an infield single in the eighth. Curt Castenson (1-4) gave up six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits in four innings.
