TUCSON, Ariz. - The Simpson baseball team got out to a three-run lead but couldn't hold on in an 11-3 loss to Cornell in the 2015 season-opener at the Tucson Invitational on Saturday.
Simpson also played a seven-inning exhibition contest against Olivet Nazarene, losing 6-5.
Nick Anderson drove in runs in the first and third innings, and Gage Reis threw four scoreless innings as the Storm (0-1) built a 3-0 lead through seven.
Brandon Davis tied the game with a three-run double in the eighth and added a two-RBI triple in the ninth for the Rams (1-1), who scored six in the eighth and five in the ninth.
Jeremy Roehrick went 2-for-4 and Matt Pennings took the loss in relief, allowing six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. Reis struck out four and gave up three hits in the start.
