Cross country squads battle in Brissman-Lundeen Invite

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- For the first time since Sept. 11, the Simpson College men's and women's cross country teams were in action. The Storm competed in the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational in Rock Island, Illinois on Friday.

The men collected fifth out of 24 squads with a score of 150 and the women earned eighth of 21 teams with 218 points.

Junior Spencer Moon ended fourth overall with a career-best 25:07.5 and sophomore Louden Foster cracked the top 25 with a time of 26:01.5 to finish 24th in the 340-member field.

Senior Ryan Courtney (37), senior Shane Breheny (41) and junior Noah Nelsen (44) capped off the top five for Simpson, respectively.

Out of 297 runners, senior Cat Lucht paced the women by finishing 20th overall with a career-best performance. Senior Mackenzie Laughlin tallied 34th and freshman Emma Angus ended 36th in her second career race.

Sophomore Lara Kallem and freshman Teghan Booth ran career bests to close out the top five for the squad.

Simpson has one final tune-up left on its calendar ahead of the American Rivers Conference Championships later in the month. The Storm will compete in the Drews/Neubauer Invitational in West Salem, Wisconsin on Oct. 15 before the Championships on Oct. 30.
