Storm women capture first at home invite

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College men's and women's cross country teams both won their own event during the Bill Buxton Invitational on Friday. The men scored a perfect 15 and the women collected a 22 at Pickard Park.

"Our women ran outstanding and our men opened up strong tonight," head cross country coach Heath Moenck said. "It was fun to see them pack up and run so well. Emma, Cat, Lara, Spencer and the rest of our top-seven men were excellent."

On the women's side, freshman Emma Angus, junior Cat Lucht and sophomore Lara Kallem finished first, second and third, respectively, to lift the Storm in the 4K. Macie Bopp, Mackenzie Laughlin and Sophie Hall recorded top-10 finishes to boost the team's score.

The men began their season on a good note by capturing the top-seven slots in the meet. Junior Spencer Moon took the top spot by 30 seconds, while Harry Dudley, Andrew Klein, Noah Nelsen and Shane Breheny filled out the next four marks, respectively.
