Storm close out A-R-C slate at Nebraska Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. -- In the final American Rivers Conference match of the season for Simpson volleyball, the Storm lost 3-0 at Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday night.

The Prairie Wolves (17-7, 5-3 A-R-C) used set scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-23 for the sweep.

In the first set, Simpson (8-16, 0-8 A-R-C) saw itself down 10-5 before making a run to bring the score to 13-11 and eventually came within one point at 16-15. Nebraska Wesleyan would then go on a 9-2 spurt to close the opening set by hitting .293.

The Storm held tight throughout the second set with a slim 7-6 lead, but would drop the frame after giving up an 11-4 run to the Prairie Wolves. Simpson hit .000 during the set with nine kills while Nebraska Wesleyan hammered down 12.

During the final set, the Storm look poised to extend the match to a fourth set after going up by five at 20-15. After a kill by Megan LeMay kept Simpson ahead at 21-17, the Prairie Wolves flipped the script with a 6-0 spurt to make it 23-21. A kill by Allyson Rose and an attack error by Nebraska Wesleyan brought the game to a draw at 23-23, but a kill and an ace by the home squad close the door on the match.The Storm hit their best of the whole match by connecting on 15 kills with a .149 hitting clip.

Niya Harris paced the offense with 10 kills and Alyssa Mathews distributed a game-high 29 assists. Ariana Martinez dug up 17 attempts and Kenedy Grant had a career-high 10 digs in the performance.

Simpson competes in the Warrior Invite this weekend in Milwaukee, Wis. The Storm take on the host, Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday at 7 p.m., before returning to competition on Saturday with matches against Concordia Wisconsin and Maranatha Baptist.
