Juni, Lester lead Storm at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. -- Hannah Lester tallied 23 kills and Kamryn Juni had 19 on Saturday as the Simpson volleyball team lost to Alma and Millikin in the Millikin University Fall Triangular in Decatur, Ill.

The Storm (8-11) lost 3-1 in the opener to Alma with set scores of 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-17 and fell 3-0 to Millikin to close out the day with set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-18.

Lester and Juni had their best performances of the day with 18 and 14 kills, respectively, against the Scots. Lester captured a .412 hitting percentage to pace the team, while Juni hit .300 and Taylor Sudmann produced 12 kills to help the offense. Alyssa Mathews dished out 41 assists and had 15 kills for a double-double.

Simpson jumped out to an early set victory, but could not hang on to win the match as Alma went on a 3-0 run. The Storm hit .278 in the opener with 15 kills, but finished the next three sets hitting less than .200.

Set Scores: 25-17, 25-22, 25-18

Simpson faced a tough opponent in the Big Blue to end competition as the hosts hit .231 as a team and held the Storm to a .010 hitting clip during the match.

Lester and Juni both had five kills each and Sudmann added four to help the cause.
