Bak named Most Valuable Field Performer at IIACs

MOUNT VERNON - Kinsey Bak scored 28 of Simpson's 56 points, earning Most Valuable Field Performer honors at the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Ash Park Stadium.

Simpson placed sixth with 56 points, crowning two conference champions. Wartburg won the team title with 280 points.

Bak (Hinton, Iowa) became the third Simpson track and field athlete to earn MVP honors in the last three years, winning the high jump (5-3, 1.60 meters) for the third consecutive year, placing second in the long jump (17-1 1/4, 5.21 meters), taking fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.68), sixth in the triple jump (34-10 1/4, 10.62 meters) and seventh in the javelin throw (107-5, 32.74 meters).

Lauren Bucklin earned Most Valuable Track Performer honors at the outdoor conference championships in 2009 and Catie Ellingson earned Most Valuable Track Performer honors at the indoor conference championships this season.

Chelsey Degen (Algona, Iowa) won her first conference championship in the discus throw, reaching an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark with a toss of 144-3 (43.97 meters).

Simpson also got points from Lauren Anderson (Oakland, Iowa), who placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles. Molly Sabers (Iowa City, Iowa) took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.03) and eighth in the triple jump (34-4 1/4, 10.47 meters). April Sigmund (Jewell, Iowa) took seventh in the 400 meters and Maddy Besack (Omaha, Neb.) took eighth in the discus throw (116-10, 35.62 meters).
