Bak captures third high jump title at IIAC Championship
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Kinsey Bak defended her title in the women's high jump on Saturday, leading Simpson at the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Ash Park Stadium on Friday.
A junior, Bak (Hinton, Iowa) won the outdoor high jump for the third year in a row, clearing 5-feet, 3 inches (1.60 meters). She also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17-1 1/4 (5.21) meters, accounting for 18 of Simpson's 21 points. The Storm women are in sixth place after two days of the championships.
Bak also qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles, turning in the seventh-fastest qualifying time with a 15.47. Lauren Anderson (Oakland, Iowa) finished third in 100 hurdle prelims, running a 15.19. She also had the fifth-fastest qualifying time in the 400 hurdles with a 1:04.98. Molly Sabers (Iowa City, Iowa) took seventh in the 400 hurdle prelims with a 1:06.32.
April Sigmund (Jewell, Iowa) took third in the prelims of the 400 meters, running a 59.96. Simpson picked up its final three points in the 4x800-meter relay, placing sixth.
The Iowa Conference Championships conclude Saturday from Mount Vernon.
