Bak named IIAC Performer of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS - Simpson track and field athlete Kinsey Bak earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Outdoor Field Performer of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, May 8 after tying a school record in the high jump.
Bak, a junior from Hinton, Iowa, scored 23 of Simpson's 44 points at the Monmouth Fighting Scot Invitational on May 7. She won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 7-1/4 inches (5.71 meters), tying her own 2010 school record and automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the process. The effort is tied for the second-highest on the most recent NCAA Division III performance list.
She also took third in the long jump (17-6 1/4; 5.34 meters), fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.57 seconds), and sixth in the javelin throw (107-1; 32.64 meters).
Bak and her teammates will compete at the Iowa Conference Championships this weekend in Mt. Vernon.
