Bak autos, ties school record at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Kinsey Bak won the high jump at the Monmouth Fighting Scott Invitational on Saturday, clearing 5-7 1/4 to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships and tie her own school record.

The Storm placed fifth of eleven teams at the meet, scoring 44 points.

A junior, Bak (Hinton, Iowa) accounted for 23 of those points. She cleared 5-7 1/4 (5.71m) in the high jump, her best performance of the outdoor season. The mark is tied for second in the NCAA Division III and tied her own school record set in 2010.

In addition to her effort in the high jump, Bak took third in the long jump (17 6 1/4, 5.34m), fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.57) and sixth in the javelin throw (107-1, 32.64m).

Chelsey Degen (Algona, Iowa) took home Simpson's other first-place mark on the day, finishing at the top of the field in the discus throw. She reached the NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark with her toss of 148 (45.11m).

Lauren Anderson (Oakland, Iowa) placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.04, her best of the season. Anderson also took eighth in the pole vault, clearing 8-10 1/4 (2.70m).

Other point-scorers from Simpson included Molly Sabers (Iowa City, Iowa) taking fifth in the triple jump (33-8 1/2 (10.27m) and Jordan Maher (Baxter, Iowa) placing eighth in the discus throw (113-11, 34.72m).

The Storm head to Mt. Vernon this weekend for the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held May 13-14 at Ash Park Stadium.
