Simpson women's swimmers fall to Coe, Iowa Central
INDIANOLA - The Simpson women's swimmers fell to Coe and Iowa Central in a double dual at the Simpson Pool on Saturday.
The Storm (1-8, 0-4 IIAC) lost to Coe, 60-28 and fell to Iowa Central, 52-30.
Saturday marked Simpson's first action since Dec. 10, and head coach Aaron Strain liked what he saw out of his team.
"We had a great meet today," Strain said. "The team had a tough week of practice and we were missing some girls due to illness, so I was pleased with the effort we put forward today."
Simpson started out the day with a first-place effort in the 200-meter medley relay, as the team of Catherine Mayes, Erin Gerken, Keely Goshia and Anna Aldridge won the event in a time of 2:28.23.
The team's top individual performances came from Mayes and Aldridge. Mayes touched the wall second in the 200-meter IM (2:59.97) and Aldridge finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:07.92).
Mayes added a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:22.95).
The Storm return to action next weekend at the Grinnell Invitational, held Jan. 21-22.
