Simpson opens 2010-11 season

INDIANOLA - The Simpson women's swimming team opened the season Saturday with losses to Luther and Morningside in a double-dual at the Simpson pool.

The Storm (0-2) lost to Luther, 97-16 and fell to Morningside, 93-19.

Simpson's best finish of the afternoon came in the 200-meter freestyle relay, where the Storm took first place. The team of Jasmin Rubel, Stacy Sturlaugson, Catherine Mayes and Erin Gerken finished in 2:18.67, less than a second ahead of Morningside.

Sophomore Anna Aldridge swam to a second-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle (29.90) and a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle (1:06.49).

Goshia and Mayes added a pair of fifth-place performances. Goshia swam the 100 butterfly in 1:18.09 and Mayes swam the 100 IM in 1:21.28.

Simpson returns to the water Friday when it takes on Iowa Central in a dual at Fort Dodge. The contest is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
