Storm wrestlers fall short against Loras

INDIANOLA - Senior 149-pounder Caleb Brus earned career win number 94 but Simpson fell to Loras 24-19 on Wednesday night at Hopper Gymnasium.

The Storm (2-9, 0-4 IIAC) picked up five wins on the night, but forfeits at 125 and heavyweight shifted the score in favor of the visiting Duhawks (7-7, 1-1 IIAC).

Brus recorded his 21st win of the season after shutting out opponent Drew Salzman in a convincing 10-0 major decision. Fellow senior Jordy Ammons escaped with a 1-0 victory at 184 pounds, earning a riding point in the win over Tiegen Podliska.

Solid performances by freshmen wrestlers Justin Bruce (165) and Derek Entz (141) also helped Simpson move into a late lead that was capped by a medical forfeit in the 197-pound match, awarding freshman Jared Bevins the victory.

Bruce beat Mitch Gansen 11-7 and Entz out-dueled Chris Reed, 8-6.

The Storm look to improve their record when they host one site of the Iowa Conference Duals next Saturday. Simpson hosts Coe, Dubuque and Wartburg at Cowles Fieldhouse beginning at 10 a.m. The schedule is as follows:
