Simpson picks up first dual win of the season

GALESBURG, Ill. - Senior 149-pounder Caleb Brus went 2-0 on Wednesday, leading Simpson to its first dual victory of the season against Knox.

The Storm (1-4) faced Knox and Augustana (Ill.) in the double-dual, notching a 36-12 win against the Prairie Fire and falling 37-7 to the Vikings.

Brus recorded one of four Simpson pins in the win against Knox, dropping Dugan O'Connor in 5 minutes, 38 seconds. He added a major decision against Augustana's Steve Poffenberger, improving his record to 6-7 on the season.

Calvin Barber picked up Simpson's second win against the Vikings, an 11-6 decision over Justin Hoffman at 157 pounds.

Against Knox, the Storm won all but one bout. The Prairie Fire earned points due to a forfeit at 125 and James Wagner won by fall at heavyweight over Jared Bevins, Simpson's 197-pounder.

Along with Brus, 157-pounder Cory Stratton, 165-pounder Casey Young and 184-pounder Spencer Lueders all won by fall. Stratton pinned Dylan Reynolds in 1 minute, 38 seconds, Young took care of Kin Vong in 1 minute, 35 seconds and Lueders needed only 33 seconds to pin Isaac Juarez.

Jordan Howell picked up a 4-0 decision against Jason Lafavor at 141 pounds and Jordy Ammons turned in a hard-earned 4-3 win over Alex Faulkner at 174.

Simpson will return to the state of Illinois for its next competition when it travels to Naperville for the North Central Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11.
