Martin paces Storm after first weekend of IIAC Championship

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Lydia Martin carded an 80 to remain in the top-five of the individual standings and the Simpson women's golf team remained in fourth place after the second round of the Iowa Conference Championship on Saturday.

Simpson improved four strokes from Friday's opening round, turning in a 334 on the second day. The Storm shot a 672 for the weekend at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, 21 strokes behind third-place Luther. Central jumped to first place and is three strokes in front of Wartburg.

Martin posted Simpson's lowest round of the day, giving her 159 for the weekend and sole possession of fifth place. She sits nine back of leader Brooke Klostermann of Wartburg and one stroke behind a two-way tie for third place.

Hannah Gordon ended the weekend with a 164 and fell to tie for 12th place, five strokes behind Martin.

The trio of Haley Booton, Courtney Mabeus and Kelsa Berkland trimmed a combined 14 strokes from their opening-round efforts.
