Gordon leads Storm on first day of Wartburg Invite

WAVERLY, Iowa — Hannah Gordon carded her third consecutive low round of the season with an 80 as the Simpson women's golf team sits in 13th place after the first day of the Wartburg Invite.

The Storm shot 340, trailing Bethel by eight strokes at the end of the first round on the par-72, 5,822-yard layout at Prairie Links. St. Catherine leads with 303 followed by UW-Stout with 310.

Gordon shaved off two strokes from her last round at Pheasant Ridge for a career low, putting her in a four-way tie for 21st. Lydia Martin shot an 84, tied for 50th.

UW-Stout's Rachel Hernandez shot a 2-under 70 to lead the tournament at the end of the first day.

The tournament concludes Sunday.
