Men's track & field places 7th at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Brad Vogel finished fourth in the 100 and 200 meters and the Simpson men's track and field team placed seventh of eleven teams at the Monmouth Fighting Scott Invitational on Saturday.

A freshman, Vogel (Donnellson, Iowa) ran the 100 in 11.16 seconds and the 200 in 22.65 seconds. His effort in the 200 meters was his fastest of the season.

Matt Stone (Boone, Iowa) turned in a career-best time of 4:04.50 in the 1500 meters, placing fifth. Lance Kramer (Donnellson, Iowa) added another fifth-place finish, running the 100-meter hurdles in 16.07 seconds.

John Cord (Atlantic, Iowa) took sixth in the javelin throw with a heave of 158-2 (48.20m).

Ted Heying (Sumner, Iowa) placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (59.17) and Josh Diehm (Waterloo, Iowa) tied for seventh in the high jump (6-3 1/4, 1.91m). Leif Jeppson (Mt. Vernon, Iowa) rounded out the point-scorers for Simpson, taking eighth in the 400 hurdles (59.39).

The Storm head to Mt. Vernon this weekend for the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held May 13-14 at Ash Park Stadium.
