Simpson men take second at Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Simpson got five first-place finishes from five different individuals and placed second of five teams at the Dubuque Invitational on Saturday.

UW-Platteville won the meet with 199 points, followed by Simpson with 115. Dubuque finished third (63), followed by Clarke (59) and the D4 National Champions (57).

Led by Ryan Edwardson, Simpson dominated the field in the 3,000-meter run, taking six of the top seven spots. Edwardson set a meet record, running a 9:04.83. Mitchell Davis came in second (9:10.45), John Warnke took third (9:25.72) and Jake Sutton fourth (9:35.96). Bryce Phillips came in sixth and Pat Gerhardt seventh.

Jarrod Schott and Matt Stone each took home a first and second-place finish.

Schott won the long jump with a meet-record leap of 21-11 and finished second in the triple jump (41-4 1/4). Stone set a meet record in winning the mile (4:27.94) and came in second in the 800 meters (2:03.07).

Lance Kramer tied for first in the high jump, setting a meet record with a jump of 6-2. Rory Hennessy won the weight throw (45-9 3/4) and came in third in the shot put (42-9).

Brandon Christensen added a third-place effort in the 600 meters (1:25.56).

Simpson returns to action next weekend when it takes part in the Grinnell Invitational, Feb. 11-12.
