Simpson men in sixth after first day of IIAC Championships

PELLA - The Simpson men's track and field team sits in a tie for sixth place after the first day of the 2011 Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Central leads the men race with 102.16 points, followed by Wartburg (55), Cornell (30.33), Luther (30), Loras (24.50), Buena Vista (10), Simpson (10), Coe (9) and Dubuque (2).

Freshman Brad Vogel turned in the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 55-meter dash, registering a 6.58 seconds to earn a spot in the eight-man final.

Ryan Edwardson, a national qualifier in cross country this fall, placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:44. Jarrod Schott added a seventh-place performance in the long jump after an effort of 21-4 3/4.
