Turner collects three first-place results for men

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- The Simpson men's and women's swimming and diving teams turned in five first-place finishes as the Storm competed against Tabor College, Saint Mary (Kan.) and Saint Mary's of Omaha on Saturday.

The Simpson women picked up a 75-34 win over Tabor, while Madison DePover finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Alyssa Harris garnered first in the 200-yard individual medley. Danny Turner produced three top results on the men's side.

The women fell 92-70 to Saint Mary (Kan.) and 117-43 to Saint Mary's of Omaha. The men lost 83-37 to Tabor and 120-35 to Saint Mary (Kan.).

DePover hit the wall in 12:02.38 for a new career best in the event. Harris garnered a 2:26.60, just a second shy of tying her season best. Harris added a third-place performance in the 100-yard backstroke, while DePover ended fourth in the 500-yard freestyle.

In all three races Turner competed in for the Storm men, he finished ahead of the pack. Turner shortened his previous best time in the 200-yard individual medley by two seconds to 2:08.24. He then had a result of 51.94 in the 100 freestyle to delete six seconds of his previous best time.

Blake Kakacek would turn in a third-place nod in the 100-yard backstroke and finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle to round out the Simpson men.

The 400-yard medley relay of Caroline Oberg, Katie Cardoza, Wynter Knowler and Harris produced a time of 4:44.40 for second. The quartet of DePover, Knowler, Cardoza and Oberg maintained pace with second in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
