Hamline gets past Storm

ST. PAUL - Sam Studer broke a 1-1 tie in the 71st minute, leading homestanding Hamline to a 2-1 win against Simpson in non-conference action Tuesday.

Stephen Johnson found Studer off a corner kick, who flicked a shot off his heel for the game-winner. With the win, the Pipers (5-4-0) improved to 3-2 all-time against Simpson.

"Despite the result we continue to progress and are building towards playing a complete game," head coach Mike Wilson said. "The players are becoming more comfortable in their roles and we will begin our preparations right away for our final non-conference game on Sunday."

The Storm (3-6-0) tied the game at one a-piece in the seventh minute, taking advantage of a corner kick opportunity. Mark Lahart (Newton, Iowa) took the corner, finding Chris Capper (Davenport, Iowa) in the box. Capper got the ball to Jeremy Reinert (Indianola, Iowa), who headed the ball backwards into the net for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Hamline built the 1-0 lead early in the contest when Javier Rios cleaned up a deflection in the third minute.

Hamline outshot Simpson 17-7 on the afternoon and took 11 corners to Simpson's four. Luke Aronow (Ankeny, Iowa) made six saves in goal for the Storm.

Simpson's final non-conference contest of the season comes Sunday when the team travels to St. Peter, Minn. for a 4 p.m. kickoff against Gustavus Adolphus.
