CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Simpson football player Michael Connor earned Iowa Conference co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 15, the league office announced Monday.

IIAC Performers of the Week

A junior linebacker from Woodward, Iowa, Connor made a career-high 16 tackles in Simpson's 38-17 win over Luther on Saturday, Oct. 14. He also had 1.5 tackles for loss and forced a fumble as the Storm held Luther 64 yards below its season average, handing the Norse their first conference loss of the season.

Connor and the defense held Luther's triple-option attack to just 241 yards as the Storm became the first team to out-rush the Norse in 2017 (281-241).

The Woodward-Granger graduate ranks fourth in the IIAC with 51 tackles in league play. The weekly honor is the first of his career, becoming the third Simpson player to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2017. Ryan Lehr won the award on Oct. 8 and Trey Chumbley won the award on Sept. 10.
