Chumbley named IIAC Defensive Player of the Week
INDIANOLA, Iowa — Simpson defensive end Trey Chumbley had a career-day against Illinois College on Saturday, earning Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 10.
A sophomore from Grimes, Iowa, Chumbley had 3.0 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and six total tackles in the Storm's 45-13 win. Chumbley was a part of a defense that allowed just 110 yards in the second half and sacked Blueboy quarterback Drew Chance seven times, the most by the team since 2011.
Chumbley strip-sacked the Illinois College quarterback on the first drive of the second half, sparking a 38-0 run by the Storm.
His 4.5 tackles for loss are the most by a Simpson player since 2006 and his 3.0 sacks are one shy of tying the school record.
