Sasso collects national, conference honors

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Simpson quarterback Sam Sasso earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week in addition to being named Iowa Conference Offensive Player of the Week after throwing four touchdown passes in a win over Coe on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The senior signal caller from Chandler, Ariz. threw four TD passes for the third-straight week as the Storm knocked off the defending Iowa Conference champions 38-33, handing the Kohawks their first loss in 15 regular season games. He went 27-for-37 for 340 yards with one interception, which was a tipped ball that ended up being the D3football.com Play of the Week.

Sasso got stronger as the game went on, converting on 3rd-and-long four times during the Storm's two, fourth-quarter TD drives. He converted on 3rd-and-9, 3rd-and-8, 3rd-and-15 and 3rd-and-6 to help the Storm put Coe away. He threw an 11-yard scoring strike to Braden Meints with 1:40 left in the game, giving Simpson a 38-27 lead.

Sasso has been on fire the past three games, throwing 12 TDs against three interceptions and completing 65 percent of his passes while throwing for 950 yards. He ranks eighth in Division III with 1,209 passing yards and 10th in completions per game with 26.75.
