Simpson wins extra-inning thriller against Grinnell
INDIANOLA, Iowa - Drew Yarkosky (Albia, Iowa/Albia) hit a walk-off, RBI double in the bottom of the 10th and Simpson survived a 12-run fifth inning from Grinnell in a 14-13 win Thursday at McBride Field.
Yarkosky collected his fourth hit of the day, driving in Scott Ethell (Knoxville, Iowa/Knoxville) who stole second to reach scoring position.
The Storm (17-12) jumped out to a 10-1 lead after four innings, but watched the lead evaporate as Grinnell scored 12 runs and hit three homers in the fifth.
From there, Simpson held the Pioneers (17-12) scoreless, while plating runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth to tie the score.
Colton Calvert (St. Charles, Iowa/I-35) drove in five runs off a pair of doubles and a single. Ethell and Yarkosky each drove in two runs.
Chris Dorff (Urbandale, Iowa/West Des Moines Valley) earned the his second win of the year, tossing three scoreless innings of relief.
